If the top two or three inches of soil feel completely bone-dry and the pot feels incredibly light when you lift it, only then is it time to water. During the winter dormancy months, you might honestly only water this plant once every six weeks, and it will absolutely love you for it.
The Ultimate Soil Mix and Light Sweet Spot
Regular potting soil is a total trap for these plants because it holds onto water like a heavy sponge. I always mix a ton of coarse perlite and orchid bark into my potting mix to create a chunky, gritty environment.
This setup allows extra water to pour right out of the plant drainage hole so the roots can breathe. Pair that fast-draining dirt with a spot that gets plenty of bright, indirect sunlight, and you will see those gorgeous, glossy deep-green leaves popping up in no time.
