Step 3: Reset the Vase Water for Fast Recovery

Start with a truly clean vase
Wash the vase with hot soapy water and rinse it well.
If I’m dealing with a badly wilted bouquet, I’ll even swish in a tiny bit of diluted vinegar or alcohol and rinse again just to cut down on bacteria.
Fill with the right amount of water
Hydrangeas like a generous drink.
I usually fill the vase at least halfway so the freshly cut stems have plenty of access to water right away.
Add flower food if you have it
A proper floral preservative helps by feeding the flower, acidifying the water a bit, and slowing bacteria.
Recent florist advice still leans toward commercial flower food over random pantry hacks when you want the most predictable results.
Old water can ruin the rescue
Cloudy water can undo your whole home bouquet care routine in hours.
With the vase fresh and ready, hit the next button below, because I’m about to cover the florist tricks that people swear by, including the ones that actually work and the ones I personally side-eye.
