Hack #7: Dress Your Tables and Food Stations to Block Bugs

Cover Food the Easy Way
Mesh food covers are not glamorous until you need them, and then suddenly they’re the best purchase of the summer. Use them over fruit trays, desserts, sliders, and anything sweet or exposed.
They work especially well for bug-proof drink stations and self-serve buffets where people are constantly lifting lids.
Watch the Sweet Stuff
Sugary drinks, cut fruit, and cocktail garnishes can attract pests fast. I like using covered dispensers, lidded pitchers, and smaller refill bowls so food isn’t sitting out forever.
For weddings, this is a sneaky place to protect the vibe. Nothing says “chaos” like a swarm around the signature drink.
Design for Flow, Not Crowding
Spread out stations so guests aren’t packed shoulder-to-shoulder in one warm, still corner. A little spacing improves airflow and makes outdoor seating layout feel more comfortable too.
I’ve hosted enough backyard parties to know that once people bunch up, bugs somehow notice immediately. Hit the next button below, because lighting can either help the mood or quietly make the bug problem worse.
