The “Alum Powder” Rule That Keeps Hydrangea Bouquets Fresh for 2 Weeks

Daily Care That Helps Bouquets Last the Full 2 Weeks

Daily hydrangea bouquet care with fresh water changes and stem recutting

Change the water often

I change the water every day or every other day. If it looks cloudy, I change it immediately, because clean vase routine is one of the biggest drivers of two-week hydrangea bouquet success.

While I’m at it, I rinse the vase fast. This helps keep bacteria from building up.

Recut when needed

A small stem recutting technique refresh every couple of days can help, especially if the bouquet starts drinking less. I only trim a little, then return the stem to clean water.

If I’m using alum again after a recut, I dip lightly just like I did the first time.

Watch for early stress signs

Hydrangeas usually warn you before they fully collapse. The heads may soften, the neck may bend slightly, or the petals may lose that crisp, hydrated feel.

Catching stress early gives you a chance to fix it before you need a full wilted hydrangea revival routine.

Tiny habits that matter

Top off the water, remove any mushy leaves, and keep the bouquet cool. These little flower preservation tips add up fast.

This is the stage where patience pays off, but mistakes still happen. Hit the next button below, because a few super common errors can undo all your careful work in one lazy afternoon.
