4. Mix Pallets and Corrugated Metal for Industrial Charm

Pair warm wood with metal without making it harsh
A fence made from reclaimed wood and corrugated metal sounds cold on paper, but it can look amazing in real life. The key is keeping the wood tone warm enough to soften the metal.
I like using wood posts and trim with metal inside the panel sections. That balance gives you industrial charm without making your yard feel like a loading dock.
Where this combo works best
This style fits urban backyard screening, modern farmhouse spaces, and compact patios really well. It’s also handy if you want a fence that hides AC units, trash bins, or utility zones without looking clunky.
In tighter spaces, reflective metal can bounce a little more light around too. That’s a nice bonus when a dark wood fence might make the area feel boxed in.
Fastening methods that survive weather
You need washers and the right exterior screws when attaching metal. Corrugated panels expand and contract a bit with temperature swings, so overtightening them is a mistake I only made once, and wow, it was annoying.
Leave a little room for movement and use solid framing. Reclaimed boards plus metal only work when the structure underneath is strong.
Soften it with plants and decor
This is one of my favorite fences for layering in climbing plants, lanterns, and wall planters. The mix of hard and soft textures feels super current, especially with today’s trend toward cozy outdoor rooms.
And speaking of plants, the next idea turns the fence itself into a green wall. Hit the next button below because this one is perfect if you want privacy and flowers doing the job together.
