Do Dryer Sheets Repel Mosquitoes in Real Life?

The short answer
For dependable bite prevention, no. Dryer sheets are not considered a reliable way to repel mosquitoes in real-world conditions.
Could a scent cloud maybe bother some insects for a moment in some situations? Maybe. But “maybe sometimes” is not what you want when you’re trying to avoid bites.
Why real life wrecks the theory
Outside, fragrance disperses fast. Wind, humidity, sweat, and motion all dilute whatever scent the sheet gives off.
That means inconsistent scent release becomes a huge problem. A product that is not engineered for skin protection can’t maintain effective coverage around your whole body.
The coverage problem
Mosquitoes don’t politely hover near your pocket and make one decision. They approach from different angles and target exposed skin, ankles, arms, and neck.
A dryer sheet clipped to your shorts is not the same as applying a tested repellent lotion or repellent spray across exposed areas.
Reliability is the real issue
This is where I land every time: even if a dryer sheet seemed to help once, it is not dependable enough to trust. And that matters more now that West Nile virus prevention and regional disease awareness are part of normal summer planning.
