5. Oklahoma Series: Prolific Blooms and Pest Resilience

I’ll let you in on a little secret I learned while chatting with a local flower farmer a few years back.
I was visiting her cut flower farm right in the middle of a brutal August dry spell.
Most of my own backyard flowers were either getting completely chewed up by Japanese beetles or flopping over from the relentless heat.
But she had these massive, gorgeous rows of zinnias standing perfectly upright, completely unbothered by pests.
I literally begged her to tell me what she was growing, and she pointed straight to the Oklahoma Series.
Professional growers absolutely rely heavily on this workhorse variety, and honestly, we should be using them in our home gardens, too.
The biggest structural benefit here is their totally unmatched stem strength.
Instead of massive, heavy flower heads that droop in the wind, they produce these adorable, smaller, tightly-packed double pom-pom shapes.
Their stems are incredibly rigid, which makes them a total dream for your indoor floral design projects and kitchen table bouquets.
Plus, they have this incredible, natural pest resilience that seems to keep those annoying summer bugs at bay.
When you are trying to maintain a beautiful, organic flower patch, not having to constantly spray for pests is a huge relief.
But their true longevity is what really sold me on planting them every single year.
They boast a crazy high tolerance to both scorching afternoon heat waves and those unexpected, heavy early autumn rains that usually turn other blooms to mush.
They just keep producing those dense, colorful little globes straight through to October.
