Idea 9: Design a Family-Friendly Entry With Wide Stairs and Storage

Make entry safer and easier
Wide deck stairs change the whole feel of an above ground pool. They make the approach feel more stable, welcoming, and much less like a ladder-to-nowhere situation.
If kids, grandparents, or frequent guests use the pool, wider is better. I’m a big fan of generous treads and sturdy handrails.
Build storage near the action
Use the space under the stairs for bins, hooks, or a closed cabinet. That’s prime real estate for towels, goggles, pool shoes, and sunscreen.
A tidy entry instantly makes the whole family-friendly pool deck feel calmer. And when things have a place, cleanup is way less annoying.
Add safety details that still look good
Use non-slip strips, gate hardware if needed, and railings that match the deck style. Safety does not have to be ugly.
I also like soft solar marker lights on stair edges. They help at dusk and blend right into a low-maintenance deck finish approach.
Keep the look coastal
Paint or stain the stair structure to match the deck, then add one planter or bench nearby. A few thoughtful touches keep the practical zone from looking purely utilitarian.
Once the structure is working hard for your family, the next layer is what makes it glow after dark and feel a little magical, so hit the next button below.
