Budget Breakdown: What to Buy With $35, $60, or $100

What $35 Can Get You
At this level, I’d buy 2 to 3 herb plants, one bag of potting mix, and one simple water-control item. Think basil, rosemary, or mint in containers, plus a gutter scoop or drainage sand.
It’s not flashy, but it works. A tiny budget garden makeover can still improve one seating area a lot.
What $60 Can Get You
With $60, you can usually do a small container cluster and one surface fix. For example, 3 plants, 2 affordable pots, potting mix, and a bag of cedar mulch or pea gravel.
This is my favorite price point for renters and small-space homeowners. It’s enough to make the yard look intentional, not random.
What $100 Can Get You
At $100, you can mix plants, cleanup supplies, and a drainage or water feature upgrade. That might mean 4 to 6 plants, mulch or gravel, and a small solar fountain or rain barrel screen.
This budget works especially well for a summer backyard makeover focused on one patio or entry zone. You don’t need to redo the whole landscape.
Where I’d Shop to Save Money
I usually check local garden centers for healthier herbs, then grab soil, gravel, and basic pots from big-box stores or neighborhood marketplaces. End-of-season racks can be gold for affordable landscape edging and planters.
