Mistakes to Avoid Before You Start Your Pool Makeover

Mistake 1: Skipping proper leveling
This is the big one. A badly leveled pool can wear unevenly, look off, and create safety issues.
I know prep work is not fun. It’s sweaty, boring, and not Instagrammable at all, but it matters so much.
Mistake 2: Overcrowding the yard
Small backyards need breathing room. If you cram in the pool, lounge chairs, giant planters, string lights, a bar cart, and three side tables, the whole thing starts looking chaotic.
Pick a few strong elements and let them shine. Editing is what makes budget spaces look expensive.
Mistake 3: Forgetting maintenance realities
Leave access to hoses, filters, and pool tools. Choose finishes that can get wet and dirty without falling apart.
Also, think about easy pool maintenance before you think about cute towel hooks. Future-you will be grateful, trust me.
Mistake 4: Doing things out of order
My favorite project order is this: choose the pool, prep the base, plan safety, add privacy, then layer in decor and landscaping.
That sequence saves money and keeps you from redoing work.
