7 Indoor Plants That Thrive with Minimal Attention

6. The Trailing Heartleaf Philodendron (Philodendron hederaceum)

A beautiful, lush Heartleaf Philodendron (Philodendron hederaceum) with its signature dark green, heart-shaped leaves, cascades elegantly from a dark green hanging basket. The long, trailing vines create a stunning vertical element perfect for home interiors. This image showcases a popular choice for indoor plants decor living room settings, with a softly blurred background of a room suggesting a bright and airy living space.

If you love the vining, easy-care nature of the Pothos but you’re looking for something with a touch more romantic softness, then you absolutely have to meet the Heartleaf Philodendron.

It’s a classic for a reason. Those perfectly heart-shaped leaves are just impossible not to love.

The Sweetheart of the Plant World

I have a bit of a collection of these, I must admit. There’s something so delicate and sweet about their leaves. While Pothos leaves are a bit thicker and waxier, the leaves on the Philodendron hederaceum are often thinner and feel almost velvety to the touch.

They are the ultimate vining plant for adding a touch of gentle, green beauty to your home. It’s a plant that truly says “welcome, stay a while.”

This is an incredibly easy-care houseplant, and it grows fast, which is so rewarding. Seeing new leaves unfurl and the vines get longer and longer makes you feel like you’re really succeeding.

Learning to Listen to Your Philodendron

Just like its cousin, the Pothos, the Heartleaf Philodendron is a fantastic communicator. This is a huge relief if you’re a bit of a nervous plant parent.

It will give you a very obvious, slightly dramatic droop when it’s thirsty. There’s no guesswork involved. Once I see those leaves start to look a little limp, I know it’s time for a drink. I just give it a good watering once the top inch or so of soil is dry to the touch.

It’s pretty flexible with light, too. It’s happiest in medium indirect light—like near a window but not directly in the sun’s path—but it will do just fine in lower light, too. It’s a very agreeable friend.

Styling with Romantic, Cascading Vines

This is the plant you use when you want to soften the edges of your home and create a true sanctuary. Its graceful, trailing vines are perfect for adding a peaceful, organic touch.

I have one on the top shelf of a bookcase, and its vines cascade down the side, which I just love. It’s also beautiful draped over a mantelpiece or even the corner of a dresser in a bedroom for a feeling of serene beauty.

It just makes a space feel calmer and more lived-in. It’s the perfect finishing touch for a cozy reading nook or a relaxing bedroom retreat.

We’ve had the tough, the vining, and the romantic. But are you ready for something completely different? Something quirky, fun, and totally unexpected?

Click the “Next” button below, because we’re finishing our list with the playful Ponytail Palm, a plant with a personality all its own!
