6. Entertainment-Ready Multi-Level Patio
After creating peaceful retreats and cozy intimate spaces, I realized what my backyard was really missing – a place where I could host epic gatherings without everyone crowding into one cramped area.

Designing Multiple Levels for Different Activities
My first attempt at a multi-level design was a complete disaster. I thought I could just build random platforms at different heights and call it good.
It looked like a bunch of disconnected decks floating in space.
Multiple levels need to flow together naturally and serve specific purposes. I ended up hiring a landscape architect to help me redesign the entire layout.

The fire pit area has its own subtle lighting that doesn’t compete with the firelight but provides safety illumination for the seating areas.
All the electrical work required permits and professional installation. I learned that outdoor electrical is serious business – not a DIY project.
